What is that image? No one would even guess that that is a picture of a dog. Behind that painfully matted fur is a little dog waiting for a second chance.
Thankfully, organizations like the Lost Fantasy Rescue are rampant; these groups of volunteers and staff aim to rescue abandoned dogs and help them find their forever families. Amanda Keerbs is one of the volunteers at Lost Fantasy Rescue.
Keerbs recalled that an online post of a canine ditched in a rubbish bin caught their attention at the Lost Fantasy Rescue. They knew they had to do what they did best and rescued him. Little did they know that the little mutt’s condition was so grave.
Amanda narrated that the poor canine’s fur was so matted that there were unpleasant surprises like a harness, some debris, twigs, and trash. He was just so Scruffy, and that is how he got the name.
The unfortunate dog had to be shaved, and his teeth had to be extracted because of a terrible mouth infection. Who knows how long he has been alone trying to survive the world in his painful circumstances?
Amanda Keerbs became Scruffy’s foster mommy for a few weeks. He was taking his time healing his wounds and developing an adorable personality.
Scruffy’s change was so impactful that Lost Fantasy Rescue was rewarded $5,000 for winning first place at the Dirty Dogs Contest. It’s an honor for the team and a second chance at life for Scruffy.
The publicity of the Dirty Dogs Contest paved the way for Scruffy to get adopted; he found his eternal home with a retired educator named Allyn Mitchell.
Mitchell shares that when little Scruffy was found, he was a big, dirty disaster. After the pup was shaved, he became a brand new dog, and the name Scruffy no longer matches him.
So, from being Scruffy, he is now named Teddy. His mom, Allyn, is grateful to the volunteers and staff who gave Teddy his second chance.
